Jagan not to burn fingers with Kapu quota!

Jagan not to burn fingers with Kapu quota!

It appears YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy does not want to entertain any demand for reservations to Kapu community, since he feels it is too sensitive for him politically.

He reportedly told a delegation of Kapu MLAs, MLCs and ministers which met him on Monday in no uncertain terms that there was no question of providing reservations to Kapus under Other Backward Classes quota or Economically Weaker Sections quota, since it becomes controversial and triggers protests.

According to party sources, the three-member committee constituted by Jagan to study Manjunatha Commission report was just to drag the issue further, as no time limit has been fixed for the committee to submit its report.

“There is nothing much to do a deep study on the report. But Jagan wants to prolong the issue as long as he can,” a source said.

Jagan sought to blame Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu government for not replying to the letter written by the Centre on April 4 seeking clarity on whether the State wanted to take back the decision of including Kapus in the BC list.

“How can Naidu give any reply to the Centre at a time when he was amidst of campaign for the assembly elections held on April 11? Even after that he could not have written any letter, as he was only an interim chief minister without any powers to take a decision. May be, he would have replied to the letter had he come back to power again,” a Kapu leader argued.

Surprisingly, even Jagan had not taken any decision on the Centre’s letter in the last two months.

“He came to power on May 30. If he had any commitment towards Kapu quota, he would have replied to the Centre’s letter immediately. It clearly shows that Jagan did not want to commit himself on Kapu reservations but leave it to the Centre,” the Kapu leader said.
