How Can HC Blame Jagan For Social Media Posts?

The confrontation between the Andhra Pradesh high court and state government led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy appears to be going to extreme lengths with both the sides making harsh comments against each other.

A day after the high court making pungent comments against the state government and the YSR Congress party leaders for questioning the judgements and posting unsavoury statements in the social media, the ruling party leaders shot back at the high court.

On Friday, YSRC leader and advisor to the government Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy took strong exception to the high court bench’s observations that if the government had no faith in the judiciary, it could as well approach the Parliament abolish the state high court.

“Every system in the democracy should maintain self-restraint before commenting on the other systems and respect one another. Otherwise people would lose faith in the democracy,” Sajjala said.

While admitting that the political system was absolutely infallible, the advisor said same was the case with the other systems as well.

“If the high court makes such harsh comments on the government, it should record the same as part of its judgement. Then, we could react on the same appropriately,” Sajjala said.

It was unfortunate on the part of the judiciary, which was expected to resolve all the issues, to make such unwarranted comments against the government, he said.

“It is highly regrettable that the high court was generalising a few petty incidents. For instance, the police machinery has improved a lot in the recent past. But the high court is making comments as if there is no police machinery in the state and the government is not able to control it. This is very unfortunate,” he said.

Sajjala wondered how the high court could make serious comments against the state government, when there were a few comments in the social media against judiciary.

“There are no laws to control the social media, where personal liberty is crossing limits. In fact, YSRC itself has been the victim of these social media comments,” he said.

The advisor to the government said the high court’s comments against the chief minister and the administration also amounted to violation of the Constitution. He decried the judiciary’s attack on the democratically elected government.
