Hotel fire mishap: Rayapati niece also under scanner

It looks like the family of senior TDP leader and former Narsaraopet MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao appears to be under scanner of the police in connection with the fire mishap at Hotel Swarna Palace in Vijayawada on August 9 in which 10 Covid-19 patients died.

The police, who have already arrested several persons and questioned many others in connection with the mishap, are now focussing on the role of Rayapati family in the incident.

On Tuesday, the police served notices on Rayapati Sailaja, niece of the former TDP MP, asking her to appear before them for interrogation.

Sailaja happens to be the daughter of Sambasiva Rao’s brother and daughter-in-law of Rammohan Rao, chairman of Ramesh Hospitals which was running the Covid Care Centre at Swarna Palace.

Though the police said they would go Sailaja’s house for questioning, she told them that she would come to Ramesh Hospitals in Guntur. A special team of the police officials went to Guntur for questioning her and record her statement.

It is learnt Rayapati Sailaja has also been very active in the agitation launched by the farmers of Amaravati.

It may be mentioned that the police had already questioned Rayapati’s daughter-in-law Dr Mamatha who was looking after the HR wing of the Ramesh Hospitals.

The police suspected that she had all the records and evidences pertaining to the agreement between Ramesh Hospitals and Swarna Palace Hotel.

Meanwhile, the bail petitions of the three executives of Ramesh Hospitals, who were arrested soon after the incident and the anticipatory bail petition of Dr Ramesh are pending before the third additional chief metropolitan magistrate court and they will come up for hearing on August 21.
