HC admits one more petition against Jagan govt

The Andhra Pradesh state high court on Tuesday admitted yet another petition against YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

An advocate filed a fresh public interest litigation petition against the Jagan government stating that it had wasted precious public money of over Rs 4,000 crore for painting the gram panchayat buildings and other official buildings with blue and green colours resembling that of the ruling YSR Congress flag and later removing the same after the Supreme Court order.

The petitioner demanded that the government should recover this amount from YSRC and the latter should be directed to remit the amount to the state exchequer at the earliest.

He mentioned the names of chief secretary Neelam Sawhney and ministers Buggana Rajendranath Reddy and Botsa Satyanarayana as respondents in their individual capacity as being responsible for paining the buildings with YSRC colours and removal of the same.

However, the high court sought to know how the chief secretary and ministers would be held responsible in their individual capacity. He directed that the petitioner file his PIL in a proper manner.

On June 2 this year, the Supreme Court ordered that the Jagan government remove YSRC flag colours from the government and panchayat buildings.

It dismissed a special leave petition filed by the Jagan government challenging the earlier orders of the state high court.

The Supreme Court directed that the government repaint the panchayats buildings with their original colour, and this should follow within four weeks.

This SLP was filed challenging the high court's ruling on party colours for government buildings.

The high court had wondered what led the state government to issue orders to go ahead with painting the government buildings, despite earlier orders, where such activity was not permitted.

It sought to know why contempt proceedings should be initiated against government officials.
