Harsha Kumar in hiding, cops launch hunt

Former Lok Sabha member from Amalapuram G V Harsha Kumar is now facing the music for making unsavoury comments against the YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh over the alleged failure of authorities in retrieving the boat which sank in Godavari river near Katchuluru village of Devipatnam mandal in East Godavari district on September 15.

The West Godavari police have filed a case against Harsha Kumar for misleading the people with his statement that there were 93 members on board of the ill-fated boat, not 77 as claimed by the officials.

The ex-MP further alleged that though Devipatnam sub-inspector had objected to running of the boats when the flood was on, he was forced to give permission after getting a phone call from the superintendent of police and district collector.

He said tourism minister Avanti Srinivas had called the SP and instructed him to allow the boat to be operated in the river.

He even alleged that there were illegal activities going on in the boat in the name of tourism.

Following the allegations, the police filed a case against Harsha Kumar. Realising that he is in trouble as he has no proofs to support his allegations, the ex-MP immediately went underground and was missing from the district.

However, Eluru range DIG A S Khan said special teams had been constituted to arrest Harsha Kumar.

“We shall arrest him wherever he is hiding,” he said, adding that Rajahmundry three-town SI Sekhar Babu was suspended for helping Harsha Kumar escape.
