Fact Sheet: Finally, Modi Accepts Jagan's Demand

It looks as if chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent letter had its impact on the central government, if one goes by the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the nation on Monday.

The Prime Minister had announced national policy on Covid 19 vaccine and said the vaccine would be the responsibility of the Centre.

The Central government would give vaccine free of cost to all citizen above the age of 18 in the country.

He announced vaccine for all above the age of 18 in April and intended to start it from June 1.

However, the government could not supply the required number of doses to meet the demand.

Some states, including AP, have gone for global tenders to procure vaccine dosses to give free to their citizen.

But, there was no response in any state for the global tenders, as the Central government holds its say over vaccine supply.

Following this, Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote a letter to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and other chief ministers seeking one voice for national policy on vaccine.

He wanted the Central government to shoulder the vaccine responsibility or give a free hand to the states to procure vaccine.

It was in this backdrop, the Prime Minister had announced that the Central government would take care of vaccine in all states, indicating that Jagan’s letter had its impact on the decision.
