Committees on capital bills constituted

Andhra Pradesh state legislative council chairman Mohd Ahmed Shariff on Thursday constituted two select committees to study the two crucial bills related to the state capitals, despite stiff resistance from the ruling YSR Congress party.

Though YSRC members in the council Ummareddy Venkateshwarlu and Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose had written to the state legislature secretariat authorities that their party would not acknowledge the select committees, Shariff appointed minister for urban development Botsa Satyanarayan as the chairman of select committee on APCRDA Repeal bill and finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy as the chairman of Decentralisation bill.

The other members of the select committees are: P Ashok Babu, Nara Lokesh, G Tippe Swamy, BT Naidu and G Sandhya Rani (TDP), I Venkateshwar Rao (PDF) and Somu Veerraju (BJP) for decentralisation bill; and G Deepak Reddy, B Arjunudu, B Ravichandra, G Srinivasulu and B Naga Jagadeeswara Rao (TDP), K S Lakshman Rao (PDF) and PVN Madhav for APCRDA repeal bill.

Since the last date for nominating members to the select committee closed on Wednesday, the council chairman used his discretionary powers to appoint the committees and finalised their terms of reference on Thursday.

It remains to be seen how the ruling party will react now and whether it will cooperate with the committees to do their job.
