In a major development in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday took senior YSR Congress party leader and former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and his associate Venkatesh Naidu into custody for interrogation.
The ACB court on Monday granted three-day custody of Chevireddy and Naidu starting Tuesday, following a request by the SIT, for questioning.
The two were taken from jail and transported to the SIT office early this morning. The court has permitted the SIT to question them from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
While coming out of the jail for being taken for police custody, Chevireddy caused a stir outside the jail, vocally protesting the charges and claiming he was falsely implicated.
“I won’t spare anyone and I shall take revenge,” he shouted as he was escorted into the police vehicle.
Chevireddy has been listed as Accused No. 38 in the scam, while Venkatesh Naidu is Accused No. 34. Although the SIT had sought a five-day custody, the court allowed only three.
The court granted Chevireddy permission to visit the temple inside the jail for 10 minutes but rejected his request to receive outside food.
The scam continues to unravel with new twists. Recently, Chevireddy’s personal assistants Balaji and Naveen were also taken into custody by the SIT.
The two allegedly transported ₹8.2 crore in cash from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh during the elections — a sum that was later seized by the Election Commission.
Fearing arrest, both aides fled to Indore, but the SIT tracked them using mobile signal data and eventually apprehended them.
The investigation is ongoing, with SIT continuing to dig deeper into the alleged money trail and political links.
