Bandh in Amaravati, farmers confused!

The passage of two crucial bills, one to do away with Amaravati as the capital region and second to decentralise state administration with executive capital at Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh assembly on Monday has left the farmers of Amaravati with no choice.

They have realised that the YSR Congress government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy would not go back on its three-capital plan at this stage; and so, there is no point in continuing the protests. They are now planning to approach the court as a last resort.

On Tuesday, the farmers of Amaravati observed a complete shutdown in protest against the lathi-charge by the police against them as part of Chalo Assembly rally.

While schools and colleges remained closed, the shops and other business establishments downed their shutters in 29 villages falling under Amaravati.

The farmers also refused to cooperate with the police and officials in any manner, even in selling food and water.

The farmers are pinning hopes on delaying the implementation of three capitals bills as long as possible, so that they could take the fight to Delhi.

They are sending messages to each other using social media network stating that they should knock the doors of every authority to see that the capital shift plan is stalled.
