At last, Vallabhaneni Vamsi gets bail

After spending over 90 days in jail, YSR Congress Party leader and former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi was granted bail by a special SC/ST court in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

The bail is related to a case involving the alleged kidnapping of a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) worker, M Satyavardhan, in February this year.

The court granted bail after the police filed a chargesheet on Monday. As per legal procedure, an accused is eligible for bail once a chargesheet is submitted in court. Vamsi had been arrested in Hyderabad on February 13.

This was Vamsi’s third bail petition filed in the SC/ST court. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the court ruled in favour of granting bail. Four other accused in the same case were also granted bail.

According to the chargesheet submitted by Investigating Officer and Central ACP Damodar, Vamsi and his associates allegedly kidnapped and assaulted the complainant, Satyavardhan, in an attempt to suppress a case related to the 2021 attack on the TDP office in Gannavaram.

The police stated that Vamsi and his group used caste-based slurs, coerced Satyavardhan into signing an affidavit to withdraw the case, and then forced him to appear in court and claim he was neither involved in nor present at the scene.

“They threatened to kill his family if he did not comply in court,” the chargesheet stated.

The document also revealed that several of the accused face multiple other criminal cases. Vamsi alone has 17 cases registered against him across police stations in Unguturu, Gannavaram, Hanuman Junction, Patamata, and Atkuru.

The second accused (A2) faces 11 cases, the third accused (A3) has three, the fourth (A4) has two, the fifth (A5) has three, and the sixth (A6) has four cases registered against them.
