Analysis: Leaders quitting TDP to get out of cases!

The resignation of Telugu Desam Party MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan from Gannavaram has once again brought to the fore the ugly face of politics.

It is not uncommon for the leaders to resign from one party into another party, but the manner in which some leaders, who had till then been considered to be the most trusted lieutenants of the party and got benefits from it for several years, leave the parent party gives rise to a lot of suspicions.

There are certain leaders who had been associated with the Telugu Desam Party for quite a long time. Nobody ever expected that they would resign from the TDP and jump the fence into the other party – like Sujana Chowdary and C M Ramesh.

They were considered to be the loyalist of the party and also the biggest beneficiaries when TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu was in power.

But soon after Naidu lost power in the recent elections, Sujana and Ramesh resigned from the party along with two other Rajya Sabha members T G Venkatesh and G Mohan Rao, and quickly jumped into the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Surprisingly, they did not make any major complaints against Naidu while quitting. They only said they were joining the BJP following the mood of the nation.

But the fact, everybody knows, is that they had defected to the BJP to wriggle out of the cases filed against them by CBI, Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate etc.

Now, Vamsi has also quit the TDP and also his assembly membership on the ground that he was being harassed by his rivals.

Though he said he was also quitting politics, he is most likely to join the YSR Congress sooner or later, as was evident from his meeting with YSRC president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy a couple of days ago.

The reason is obvious: Vamsi is facing serious police cases and he might even get disqualified in connection with a case of forging the land documents. He has realized that he would be hounded by the police cases, if he continued in the TDP. So, the best way to escape from these cases is to join the YSRC.

What do these instances indicate? If the TDP leaders have serious cases against them like that of CBI and ED, they would take a plunge into the BJP. If they have criminal cases at the local level, they would join the ruling YSRC. They don’t mind being called betrayers of the TDP to which they had been loyal all these days!

That is the kind of democracy India is witnessing now!
