Amaravati: Focus on corruption, not floods, Mr Jagan!

Amaravati: Focus on corruption, not floods, Mr Jagan!

The YSR Congress party headed by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy seems to be surrounded by a bunch of people who advise him wrongly and take him in wrong direction while fighting against the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Take the case of recent heavy rains that submerged many parts of Amaravati.

The YSRCP leaders and the social media wing focussed only on flooding of areas in Amaravati, to project that Naidu’s dream capital city is floating in water.

A senior YSRCP leader went to the extent of saying that he would catch “pulasa fish” in Amaravati flood waters in the next couple of years. Jagan’s own media house Sakshi and his party leaders highlighted only the flooding of capital city.

What Jagan and his team have forgotten that it is not just Amaravati, but many other parts of the state and also the country including the world-class capital cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, were also flooded due to heavy rains.

So, projecting Amaravati as unfit for being the capital city due to flooding of areas had no takers. Secondly, whether Jagan likes it or not, Amaravati is going to be the only capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

In the next three years, Amaravati is going to take a shape. The centre, too, has acknowledged it as the capital city and has been funding the project. Several national and international institutions have just begun investing here.

So, by projecting Amaravati in bad light just because of a few days of heavy rains will only backfire on Jagan. What he should concentrate on is the massive corruption that is allegedly taking place in the name of capital city development.

“He should highlight issues like abnormal cost of construction of government buildings, indiscriminate allotment of lands to the private firms at throwaway prices, lack of progress in the development of returnable plots allotted to the farmers and attempt to acquire additional land in the name of expansion, much against the wishes of farmers etc,” an analyst said.

The YSRCP leaders and Jagan’s Sakshi media house should keep an eye on the irregularities in the constructions, illegal land deals being indulged in by the TDP leaders and the real problems of the farmers, instead of seasonal floods, he added.
