The North American box office witnessed a clash of two Indian films on Wednesday and Thursday, with “Dhurandhar 2” and “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” vying for audience attention.
Both films held their premiere shows on Wednesday.
While “Dhurandhar 2” opened strong with nearly $2 million from premieres, Pawan Kalyan’s “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” managed around $425K.
“Dhurandhar 2” continued its solid run on Day 1, collecting approximately $1.95 million and taking its total first-day gross, including premieres, to around $4 million.
This is a strong number, especially considering it was a regular working day and not a weekend or holiday.
However, the film fell short of creating a new record.
Prabhas’s “Kalki 2898 AD” continues to hold the top spot with a massive $5.3 million first-day gross in North America, including premieres.
But one great aspect of “Dhurandhar 2” over “Kalki 2898 AD” is the ticket price.
The Hindi film is running in theaters with just $12 and $15 while Telugu films are priced in the range of $25 to $30 per ticket.
On the other hand, “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” has underperformed. After a modest start with premiere collections, the film added only about $90K on Day 1, taking its total to roughly $525K.
The numbers are considered disappointing for a Pawan Kalyan starrer and fall below trade expectations.
