Started his career as director Sukumar’s protégé, Buchi Babu Sana is testing his luck as director with Uppena that introduces two fresh faces Vaishnav Tej and Krithi Shetty to the industry.
Buchi Babu says he used to narrate different stories to his boss Sukumar who was amazed when he narrated Uppena story.
“In my view, there’s nobody who has great knowledge on script like Sukumar sir. I’m ready to continue as an assistant director. I got more recognition as Sukumar’s assistant than director Buchi Babu. In fact, people in my village call me Sukumar.”
Usually we see many films coming in sea backdrop in Kollywood, wherein Tollywood didn’t make many films on the backdrop.
He clarifies saying, “When I watch Tamil films with, I wonder why there are not many films coming in see backdrop. Moreover I always wanted to tell rustic stories.”
Buchi Babu penned the story keeping Vijay Sethupathi in mind for villain role. However, he wanted fresh faces for lead roles. The director once again makes it clear there was no second option for Vijay Sethupathi.
“Since the story demands good budget, I opted for Vaishnav Tej from mega compound. He indeed is apt for the film. For villain’s role, I didn’t have second option. Whomever I narrated the story, I used to tell them that Vijay Sethupathi is the villain.”
There’s huge debate about climax of the film. Buchi Babu affirms Uppena is a pure love story with all the commercial ingredients.
“It’s a love story from girl’s point of view. Climax of the film is heart wrenching and it will make every emotional.”
The director concludes saying he has written his exam and is waiting for the result. The verdict of Uppena will be out in a couple of days as the film is releasing on Feb 12th.
