This Film Is Heading Toward Disaster

Kaantha released last week amid huge expectations. The film stars Dulquer Salman in the lead with Bhagyashree Borse as the female lead and Rana Daggubati in a key role.

Despite the strong cast and good technical acclaim, the film failed to attract audiences in theatres in India and abroad.

The Telugu version’s collections in India have been poor, while the Tamil version performed only moderately and did not meet expectations.

In the North America, the total collection as of today 170,000 dollars, and finally it may round up to 200,000 dollars, which does not even cover basic costs. The breakeven is possible only if it can do 1 million dollar collection.

Early positive buzz could not translate into ticket sales, and weekday numbers dropped sharply.

Tamil films usually perform well in Canada, but even there, Kaantha faced rejection from audiences with very low footfalls. In many overseas locations, shows were cancelled due to lack of occupancy.

This highly anticipated film, already known for its long production struggles, has seen disappointing results everywhere.

For the kind of budget invested, Kaantha is clearly heading toward becoming a box office disaster, raising concerns for distributors and buyers who were expecting strong returns.
