Unni Mukundan’s Marco 2 was one of the most eagerly awaited sequels on a pan-Indian level.
Among recent Malayalam releases, Marco stood out for its intense violence and gripping narrative, earning widespread acclaim even outside Kerala. Its success had led to the official announcement of a sequel.
However, Unni Mukundan has now confirmed that the sequel will not move forward.
Responding to a fan’s query on Instagram regarding the sequel’s status, Unni wrote: “Apologies, but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco.”
Marco was released in Kerala on December 20 and, despite its ‘A’ certification, received a positive response from audiences.
The film featured a strong ensemble cast including Jagadish, Siddique, Anson Paul, Kabir Duhan Singh, Abhimanyu Thilakan, and Yukti Thareja.
