'Ravi Teja's TRP: An Alarming Changed Trend

Ravi Teja’s Eagle came and went as a disaster, despite its star-studded cast including Anupama Parameswaran, Kavya Thapar, and others.

Viewers who skipped it in theatres didn’t stick around TV either. Its television premiere fared no better, recording a poor TRP of just 2.77 — a telling number.

But Eagle isn’t the only casualty. The trend is clear- TV premieres are losing relevance fast. With OTT offering convenience, control, and zero ads, why would today’s audience return to fixed schedules and commercials?

This shift is hitting entertainment channels hard. Several daily soap serials are floundering without audience engagement.

Worse still is the state of news channels. Many survive solely on political patronage and visibility-seeking investors, not actual viewership. Ad revenues have plummeted, and without TRPs to show, even advertisers are pulling back.

Most channels now rely on YouTube for reach, where audiences actually engage. But the revenue on YouTube platform is very small.

The media landscape is changing — TV no longer rules, and those failing to adapt are fading fast.
