Political Talk: Don't Underestimate Power Of '11'

Ever since the YSR Congress Party led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy faced a humiliating defeat in the 2024 assembly elections securing only 11 seats, compared to 151 in 2019 elections, leaders of the ruling TDP-led coalition have frequently used the number “11” to mock the party, often linking it to Jagan in political rhetoric.

Responding to this trend, Bharata Chaitanya Yuvaja (BCY) Party president Bode Ramachandra Yadav defended the significance of the number, highlighting its importance in Hindu religious traditions.

Addressing a press conference, he said that the number “11” holds a sacred place in Hinduism, symbolizing concepts such as Ekadasha Rudras and Vaikuntha Ekadashi.

“Using such a number to mock an individual or a political party is unfortunate,” he said.

Interestingly, Yadav said by referring to Jagan as “Eleven Reddy,” his political detractors are inadvertently attributing spiritual strength to the YSRCP chief.

Ramachandra Yadav also criticized the excessive focus on the “Mavigun” issue by the TDP leaders to mock at Jagan. He questioning why broader developmental topics were not being discussed.

He pointed out that districts like Krishna, Guntur, and Eluru fall under the APCRDA region.

“All that Jagan asked was to include Machilipatnam into the system. What is wrong in it? There is a need for serious discussions on regional planning, including proposals to include Machilipatnam,” Yadav said.

He demanded that at least 1,000 acres of land in Amaravati be allocated to Backward Classes (BCs). Drawing comparisons with the formation of Hyderabad as capital in united Andhra Pradesh, he noted that thousands of acres were distributed at nominal prices, but BCs received no share.

He stated that even today, there is no land available for BC institutions such as BC Study Circles or BC Bhavans.

“The government must allocate at least 1,000 acres to BCs in Amaravati, similar to allocations made to other institutions,” he demanded, adding that the BCY party would mobilize resources if required.
