Akhanda 2 has grossed around $915K so far in North America, with just one day remaining to complete its first week in the US theatrical run.
The film also has only one more day to benefit from wider screen availability.
From Friday onwards, a majority of screens in North America will be taken over by “Avatar 3”, significantly reducing show counts for Akhanda 2.
As a result, the film will not enjoy a free run in its second weekend, with screen availability expected to be very limited.
Adding to the challenge, Bollywood biggie “Dhurandhar” continues to perform strongly even in its second week and is expected to dominate screens in its third week as well.
Considering these factors, Akhanda 2 faces an uphill task in reaching the $1 million milestone.
While the film still has a chance to cross the mark by the end of the second weekend, it remains a tough ask.
Most of Balakrishna’s recent films achieved the $1 million mark within their opening weekend itself, making this situation a rare and challenging one.
Director Boyapati Srinu does not command a strong market in North America, and with Akhanda 2 receiving lukewarm ratings, the film’s overseas prospects have clearly taken a hit.
