The anticipation for Coolie, the action-packed spectacle from director Lokesh Kanagaraj, is reaching a boiling point as the film races toward its grand release on August 14th.
Headlining this high-voltage drama are Superstar Rajinikanth and King Nagarjuna, who come together after more than three decades.
Although Rajinikanth couldn’t be physically present at the Telugu rerelease event, he delivered a heartfelt message through a video byte, marking the film as a milestone 50th year in his cinematic journey.
“Coolie is my Golden Jubilee project, and I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting script. When Lokesh narrated the script, the first character that struck me wasn’t mine, it was Simon, played by Nagarjuna.”
The Superstar couldn’t hide his admiration for his long-time colleague and now on-screen adversary.
“I’ve acted with Nagarjuna 33 years ago, but the man I worked with in Thailand looked younger, sharper, and more powerful than ever before. There’s a certain magnetism in his performance as Simon. After seeing him on screen, I genuinely felt, ‘I wouldn’t have done Simon like Nag did.’”
Nagarjuna stated that he had been wanting to collaborate with Lokesh ever since he watched Khaidi.
“The first thing I asked Lokesh when he told me the story was: ‘Did Rajinikanth really agreed to do Coolie?’ Because Simon’s character is so powerful.”
According to him, the most memorable moment came on the first day of shoot.
“Rajini looked at me silently for three minutes and finally turned to Lokesh and said, ‘If I had seen this look before, I would have thought twice about taking the film.’ That was the biggest compliment of my life.”
