iBomma Ravi gets bail, at last

In a significant development in the high-profile movie piracy case that has drawn nationwide attention, the Telangana high court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to Imandi Ravi, the alleged operator of the iBomma piracy website.

The court imposed stringent conditions while granting relief. Ravi has been directed to appear before the Central Crime Station (CCS) police daily.

He has also been instructed to surrender his passport in court and is barred from leaving the country.

The high court imposed strict curbs on Ravi’s internet usage. He has been prohibited from using any personal internet services. In case of emergencies requiring internet access, he must obtain prior permission from the police.

Ravi is an accused in five cases, including charges related to film piracy, copyright violations, provisions under the IT Act, and money laundering.

Investigations revealed that he allegedly purchased movie prints through two channels — paying around $100 for standard prints and $200 for HD prints.

Police identified seven bank accounts linked to him, collectively holding approximately Rs 13.40 crore.

Authorities also found that he had earned around Rs 1.78 crore through betting advertisements hosted on piracy platforms.

Further investigation revealed that Ravi transferred about Rs 90 lakh to his sister Chandrika. Officials stated that many of these financial transactions were conducted in US dollars.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to probe the financial and operational network behind the piracy operations.
