Ramayana Team Rejects Rs 700 Cr OTT Deal

Ramayana Team Rejects Rs 700 Cr OTT Deal

Producer Namit Malhotra is making headlines after reportedly turning down a massive ₹700 crore OTT offer for the upcoming epic Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash.

The reported decision shows the makers’ strong confidence in the film’s scale, reach, and long-term commercial value.

According to industry buzz, the offer; said to be one of the biggest digital deals ever proposed for an Indian film was rejected almost immediately. Instead, the makers are reportedly aiming for a much bigger valuation, with expectations said to be around ₹1,000 crore.

The move suggests that the team is taking a calculated business approach, especially considering the film’s huge budget and global ambitions.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being planned as a two-part cinematic spectacle, reportedly mounted on a massive budget that could touch ₹4,000 crore overall.

The project is already being seen as one of the most ambitious films ever attempted in Indian cinema, and the recently released teaser has only increased the buzz with its grand visuals and epic scale.

According to reports, Namit Malhotra and his team believe the film deserves a much higher valuation because of its mythological legacy, franchise potential, and worldwide appeal.

Instead of selling off the digital, satellite, and music rights early to recover investment and reduce risk, the makers are said to be holding back, expecting far bigger returns as the film gets closer to release and its hype grows stronger.

This strategy also fits with the way the film is being positioned not just as a major Indian release, but as a global cinematic event.

With a star-studded cast, heavy VFX, and a story rooted in one of India’s most powerful epics, the makers appear to be aiming for a franchise that can connect with audiences well beyond India.

The first part of the two-film saga is expected to hit theatres during Diwali 2026, which further strengthens its commercial potential.

The teaser has already generated significant excitement, with many viewers praising the visual ambition and scale of the project. That positive response may have further boosted the makers’ confidence in asking for a record-breaking deal.

While rejecting such a huge OTT offer may appear risky, it clearly shows the team’s belief that Ramayana has the potential to rewrite both box office and digital business records.

Now, all eyes are on whether the film will eventually land the ₹1,000 crore deal it is reportedly targeting.
