Gurumoorthy stands out among all YSRCP MPs

Gurumoorthy stands out among all YSRCP MPs

In last year’s general elections in Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress Party won only four out of 25 Lok Sabha seats.

While three MPs — Y S Avinash Reddy from Kadapa, Maddila Gurumoorthy from Tirupati, and P Mithun Reddy from Rajampet — managed to retain their seats, Gumma Tanuja Rani from Araku was a new entrant.

Additionally, the YSRCP had 11 Rajya Sabha members until last year. However, over the past 11 months, four of them — V Vijay Sai Reddy, Beeda Mastan Rao, Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, and R Krishnaiah — quit the party.

The YSRCP is now left with only seven MPs in the Rajya Sabha: Y V Subba Reddy, Golla Babu Rao, Meda Raghunath Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Parimal Nathwani, Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, and S Niranjan Reddy.

Among these four Lok Sabha and seven Rajya Sabha members, only Maddila Gurumoorthy appears to be actively highlighting issues concerning the state. The rest seem to be largely inactive in fulfilling their parliamentary responsibilities.

Though Mithun Reddy and Subba Reddy participated in parliamentary discussions, including the debate on the Wakf Amendment Bill, they remain largely invisible in Delhi and are seldom seen addressing key issues of state interest.

In contrast, Maddila Gurumoorthy stands out. He consistently responds to major developments in Andhra Pradesh, using social media, press conferences, or open letters to figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

For instance, just a few days ago, the Tirupati MP wrote to Amit Shah demanding an urgent inquiry into repeated administrative failures and security lapses at major temples in Andhra Pradesh, following a series of incidents that endangered both lives and faith of devotees.

He cited the recent Simhachalam temple tragedy, where a newly constructed wall collapsed during the Chandanotsavam festival, killing seven devotees.

He also flagged serious mismanagement at the Sri Kurmanatha Swamy Temple — including the mysterious deaths of sacred tortoises and violations of wildlife norms — and persistent security lapses at the Tirumala temple, including the January stampede and repeated protocol breaches.

Calling the situation a "breakdown of governance and accountability," Gurumoorthy urged the Centre to initiate a thorough and impartial probe to restore public trust and safeguard the sanctity of these religious institutions.

“Apparently, Gurumoorthy is working to establish himself as a capable and credible leader in Delhi’s political circles. He has built connections with several national leaders and is keen to avoid being seen as just another ordinary MP,” a source said.

Thanks to his strong academic background, soft-spoken demeanor, and non-controversial image, Gurumoorthy has earned many allies in the capital — positioning himself as one of the few YSRCP leaders with national visibility, the source added.
