Having faith in a film is fine, but overconfidence often backfires. No matter how strongly one believes in the content, the audience’s verdict can never be predicted with certainty.
That’s why, ahead of release, most filmmakers avoid declaring their film a “blockbuster.” At best, they say, “We’ve made it well; it will definitely do well.” Rarely does anyone go beyond that. But in the case of War 2, Jr NTR broke this convention.
At the pre-release function, NTR raised his collar and confidently declared: “Not just one, I’m raising both collars. No matter what people say, this film is going to be a banger.”
Such bold, over-the-top statements are usually associated with stars like Vijay Deverakonda or Vishwak Sen. Hearing it from a top-tier actor like NTR surprised many — and even made some fans believe it would turn out to be true.
However, once the film hit the screens, the hype quickly faded. By the end of its first weekend, occupancy dropped significantly. Fans who had watched NTR’s confident statement earlier were left puzzled, wondering what gave him such certainty.
Perhaps NTR was swayed by his director’s conviction. Despite the teaser not making much impact, and none of the songs going viral, he still chose to make that bold gesture.
It was a big gamble — and now, both the actor and his fans are paying the price for that risk.
