Dhadak 2, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, has hit theatres, and early reactions are pouring in.
Marketed as a spiritual sequel to Dhadak (2018), the film is an official remake of the acclaimed Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal.
Directed by Shazia Iqbal, Dhadak 2 tackles caste-based discrimination through a love story between two college students from different caste backgrounds.
While audiences praised Triptii and Siddhant's performances and the film's emotional second half, many criticized the film’s predictable and formulaic writing. On social media platform X, reactions were mixed.
One viewer wrote, “Dhadak 2 could’ve been the next Saiyaara at the box office, but it falls short. Same old fight-against-society drama. No new scenes — old wine in a new bottle.”
Another added, “Sharp writing, strong performances… but the love story lacks the soulful soundtrack that made the first part memorable.”
Some viewers chose to skip the film altogether upon learning it was a remake of Pariyerum Perumal. “I watched the original two days ago. No need for another ruined remake,” a user posted.
Despite the criticism, many acknowledged the film's powerful theme of caste injustice.
Alongside the leads, Dhadak 2 features Saurabh Sachdeva, Zakir Hussain, and Deeksha Joshi in supporting roles.
