Coolie Report: Draws Mixed Overseas Response

Coolie Report: Draws Mixed Overseas Response

The much-anticipated Tamil film Coolie has finally hit theaters. While Chennai audiences had to wait until 9:00 pm for their first glimpse of Thalaivar, fans in the United States got an early treat, with premieres starting at 6:30 pm Eastern.

Overseas reactions, however, have been divided. Social media chatter suggests the film has “fallen short” of expectations due to a somewhat repetitive narrative. Despite its star-studded cast, some critics feel the story fails to make the most of the ensemble’s potential.

Rajinikanth’s charisma and screen presence remain highlights, particularly in the de-aged flashback sequences that have drawn special praise.

Nagarjuna makes a mark as the menacing gangster Simon, and Soubin Shahir delivers a solid performance as Dayal. Still, the first half has been described as predictable, with the real momentum kicking in during the latter part of the film.

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj elevates the energy in the second half, especially in the final 20 minutes, where high-octane action and gripping visuals bring the film to a thrilling climax.

These sequences, along with Rajinikanth’s performance, have been cited as standout moments.

On the music front, Anirudh Ravichander’s score has received a lukewarm response, seen as falling short of his usual chart-topping standards.

That said, many believe the film’s true celebration will happen once it reaches Indian audiences, where Rajinikanth’s appeal traditionally soars.
