Yash, who plays Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious film Ramayana, has revealed that there will be no on-screen face-off between him and Ranbir Kapoor in the first part.
Speaking in an interview, Yash shared that the two characters exist in their own worlds in the first instalment.
“We haven’t come together on screen in this film. Since it’s a two-part story, Ravana has his own kingdom and Rama has his own journey in the first part,” he said.
However, Yash added that they have met off-screen and share great mutual respect.
He praised Ranbir Kapoor as a “fabulous actor” and said the entire team is focused on delivering something extraordinary.
“When you are part of a project as big as Ramayana, everyone has a single goal—to give their best. Our visions are aligned, so chemistry is not even an issue,” he explained.
Director Nitesh Tiwari has also clarified that his portrayal of Ravana will not be one-dimensional.
He said Ravana will be shown as a complex character—a great warrior, scholar, musician, and a devoted follower of Lord Shiva.
“There are many aspects to Ravana beyond being a villain. It’s important to show those layers, because there is a deeper lesson about ego and vengeance,” Tiwari said.
Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Rama, also praised Yash’s portrayal, saying his version of Ravana will be very different from what audiences have seen before.
“To play Ravana, you need someone with that aura and screen presence. Yash brings that in a unique way,” he said.
Mounted on a massive budget of around ₹4,000 crore, Ramayana is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.
The music is composed by A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, marking their first collaboration.
The film will release in two parts, with the first instalment scheduled for October 2026 ahead of Diwali, and the second part planned for Diwali 2027.
