Caste Comments Around #Palasa1978

Caste Comments Around #Palasa1978

Sometimes a good movie having great potential at the box office might just damage itself with the wrong kind of positioning and projection.

One of the recent releases ‘Palasa 1978’ arrived with good expectations but here is the catch.

Recently, the noted film critic Mahesh Kathi came up with a statement which goes like this –

“There is no loss if a Reddy doesn’t watch a Reddy’s movie, a Chowdary doesn’t watch a Kamma movie, a Naidu doesn’t watch a Kapu movie but if Dalits don’t watch a Dalit movie it is a loss to the entire community. Reason is simple, whether someone watches it or not, these movies will continue coming. The recent release ‘Palasa 1978’ is a fine Dalit oriented movie and if it is not watched, nobody will have the guts to make another Dalit based movie. We have to wait for decades for another film.”

Now, with this post, the entire movie is being projected as Dalit philosophy based flick. This pitch might work in Tamil but not in Telugu.

It is a good movie but due to this projection openings are getting affected.

If a campaign that it has ‘Rangasthalam’ range emotions worked in small budget and very well made it would bring audience but with this type of promotion only certain section of audience is getting attracted.

A movie should be promoted in such a way that all sections should come and focus should be on human values than the caste aspect.
