Is Saiyaara a Copy of a Sharwanand Film?

Is Saiyaara a Copy of a Sharwanand Film?

Bollywood’s latest blockbuster, Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ayan Panday and Aneet Padda and directed by Mohit Suri, has stormed the box office.

The film entered the ₹100 crore club within just four days and is now racing toward a ₹200 crore gross in India.

However, alongside its commercial success, the film is now facing plagiarism allegations, with many noting its striking resemblance to the Korean hit A Moment to Remember.

Interestingly, the storyline had already found its way into Telugu cinema.

Director Hanu Raghavapudi had previously adapted the Korean film into Padi Padi Leche Manasu, starring Sharwanand and Sai Pallavi.

Though he modified the reason for the lead couple’s separation, the core plot remained largely unchanged. That version, however, failed at the box office.

In contrast, Mohit Suri’s adaptation has struck a chord with audiences, thanks to its emotional storytelling and a widely praised music album.

While both films were inspired by the same source, industry observers note that Suri’s execution and finesse transformed a familiar narrative into a resounding box office success.
