“War 2,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has turned out to be one of the biggest flops in the Telugu film industry.
The Telugu version, acquired by producer Naga Vamsi and his partners for a massive ₹80 crore, ended up incurring heavy losses.
Naga Vamsi was confident that collecting ₹100 crore from the Telugu states would be an easy task, but the film was hit with negative reviews and online trolling from day one.
To make matters worse, Rajinikanth’s Coolie emerged as the audience’s top choice, further eating into its box office potential.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party cadre reportedly refrained from supporting Jr. NTR, which further hurt the film’s prospects. The result was a massive financial setback that has left Naga Vamsi in deep trouble.
Yash Raj Films, being a professional Bollywood production house, has now stepped in to provide some relief. The company has agreed to return ₹22 crore to Naga Vamsi and his partners.
The compensation package is expected to be structured as follows: ₹10 crore for Nizam, ₹7 crore for Andhra, and ₹5 crore for Ceded.
“War 2” marked Jr. NTR’s much-hyped Bollywood debut, where he played the second lead opposite Hrithik Roshan.
While the Hindi version managed a comparatively better run, the Telugu version was nothing short of a complete disaster.
