This California city named 'happiest' in America

According to the 2023 Happiest Cities in America report released by personal finance website WalletHub, some of the happiest people in America live in California, in spite of its high cost of living.

The report compared over 180 of the largest U.S. cities across 30 key indicators of happiness, ranging from depression rate to income-growth rate to average leisure time spent per day.

Fremont, California, ranked as the No.1 happiest city for the third year in a row, followed by San Jose, Madison, Wisconsin, and Overland Park, Kansas.

Notably, Fremont had the lowest depression rate at 11.90%, which is 2.5 times lower than that of Huntington, West Virginia, the city with the highest depression rate at 30.10%.

Moreover, Fremont had the lowest separation and divorce rate at 9.02%, which is 4.6 times lower than Cleveland, the city with the highest rate at 41.59%.

San Francisco and Irvine, both in California, rounded out the top five. Other California cities that made it to the top 20 were Oakland, Huntington Beach, and San Diego. On the other hand, Los Angeles ranked No. 76.

Detroit, Michigan, was deemed the least happy city in America.
