In view of the election results, the various political parties and the media have projected as if it’s a doomsday for Telangana movement and TRS. While the elections results were a little disappointment only for the TRS as a political party, there were many positive outcomes for the broader Telangana movement. Every party except CPM, that went to polls were forced to sing the tune of Telangana Song. Every vote that went to Congress and TDP in these elections puts these parties with a greater burden to discharge their promises regarding the Telangana state issue. Though they have taken an ambivalent approach today and asked for more time in the name of committees, they will be put on the spot by the people in the next general elections in 2009. We appeal to all the Telangana leaders in Congress and TDP parties to intensify their fight within their parties to take a favorable position towards Telangana state hood.
It would be unwise for Congress and TDP to celebrate their victory as the performance of TRS in these elections is not as bad as it is being projected. If the same performance can be repeated in 2009 general elections across Telangana, it will definitely lead to a hung assembly in the state paving an easier path to the Telangana state formation.
We want to remind the people that this Telangana movement has been alive since the past 60 years and has seen many ups and downs, but it never died despite various tactics of the Andhra politicians. It won’t be irrelevant here to recall that the demand for Jharkhand state started during the time of British India and realized only few years ago.
Though the people deserve credit for resiliency in the Telangana movement, Mr. Chandrashekar Rao deserves credit for elevating the movement to greater heights that it has never seen. He deserves credit to have made Telangana an important issue in the national politics and his relentless efforts has forced every party to discuss and come up with their stance on this crucial issue. In the seven years of his intense struggle on Telangana issue, his strategies failed only few times, he has seen more successes than failures. Though, there were a few setbacks in this long struggle KCR has time and again demonstrated his impeccable and undisputable commitment and resolve for the Telangana cause.
At this critical stage of the movement we request Mr. Chandrashekar Rao to refocus, refine and continue his struggle with increased vigor. This is not a moment of despair but an opportunity to discover our strengths and weaknesses and get ready for the big battle ahead in 2009.
We take this opportunity and request him
- To build the party at the grass roots level and establish committees down to mandal, village and booth level.
- To actively identify and develop strong second and third tier leadership.
- To democratize the party and build partnerships with other proTelangana parties.
- To take up issues and build the movement and party around mass movements on issues.
We want to reassure that Telangana NRIs have faith in his leadership abilities and he can do justice to the sacred task that he has taken up. We wish him every success in his future endeavors and hope that the cherished dream of a Telangana state will be realized soon.
