An F-1 visa applicant recently shared their experience on Reddit, revealing that their visa was delayed due to concerns raised during the interview about their Reddit account.
The applicant, posting as u/HoneyBee2029, stated that although their account was public and contained no offensive content, the visa officer flagged it for not being listed on the DS-160 form.
During the interview, the officer reportedly informed the applicant that their Reddit activity was not visible, despite the account being set to public.
The applicant was then issued a 221(g) slip, a form used for further administrative processing, and was asked to make all social media profiles publicly accessible.
This incident has sparked concern among other visa hopefuls about the importance of disclosing all online presence, even seemingly harmless accounts.
The applicant is now seeking advice on how best to proceed with their case and avoid further delays.
