Con 'doc' arrested for luring women on Net

Hyderabad: Central Crime Station (CCS) police arrested an alleged con man who cheated several women posing as an NRI doctor.

Kommaragiri Ravi Chandra, 38, of Durgabhai Deshmukh Colony in Bagh Amberpet and native of Markunda Padu in West Godavari district, used to regularly ‘chat’ with youth on social networking sites like Orkut by introducing himself as an NRI doctor.

He used to target the communities where women actively participate and lure them to meet him in person.

“He even used to offer jobs to people, and lured about 300 women to meet him outside, in restaurants and pubs. Half of the women whom he trapped were married,” DCP CCS R S Praveen Kumar said.

Police kept a vigil on the fraudster after they received a complaint from a one Rajani (name changed). Rajani had complained that Ravi Chandra, posing as a doctor from Apollo Hospitals on Orkut, became close to her and also her family members.

“After becoming close to the family, Ravi Chandra took Rs 20,000 from them on the pretext of providing some medical care to Rajani’s father. When he did not do so, Rajani demanded the money back but Ravi refused to give it back,” CCS SI Uma Maheswara Rao said.

Based on the complaint, CCS police registered a case under section 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) against Ravi Chandra and began the investigation.

On credible information, Cyber Crime Cell sleuths of the CCS arrested the accused at a net cafe in Namalagundu of Secunderabad on Friday.
