Behind The Scene: In The Name Of God!

The sloppy ways of sarkari offices is common knowledge. So, a first look at the electricity bill of Narayanguda (Protestant) cemetery, issued in the name the Prophet Isaiah would have one imagine it to be the handiwork of some disgruntled babu at the electricity department, woken up in the middle of his siesta to attend to this little important work of issuing a bill. But as it turns out,the babus are not at fault, at least this time around.

In fact, for the past many years, this cemetery has been receiving bills in the name of this revered prophet from the eighth century BC, who is predictably long dead and gone. But because those who set up the place two centuries ago, in their own wisdom, decided to make the prophet the owner of the cemetery, all official communications (including the electricity bill) are addressed to the owner even today, despite he being non-existent. The cemetery has made no attempt to change this over the years and the babus, of course, couldnt care less, as long as their dues are cleared regularly. Now what next Income tax notices  in the name of God.
