MALKANGIRI: At least 19 Maoists were killed in a major encounter in early hours on Monday near Malkangiri, at Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border. Two policemen were also injured.
Police attacked a Maoist camp, about 10 km from Malkangiri, where at least 50-60 Maoists had gathered for a meeting, an official said.
Police say they were tipped off about a meeting of top Maoists officials in the area following which the combing operations were being carried out since late last night.
Ammunition and weapons including three AK-47 and SLRs were seized from the spot.
Malkangiri is one of the Maoist-affected regions of the state.
