Even as YSR Congress party’s decision to support National Democratic Alliance in the Presidential elections has come controversial, the way party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy went head over heels to welcome NDA candidate Ramnath Kovind on Tuesday has raised many an eyebrow.
The YSR Congress party has arranged a rousing reception for Kovind at Hotel Park Hyatt at Banjara Hills in the morning.
As soon as he arrived in the hotel, Jagan welcomed him with a bouquet and suddenly bowed down to touch Kovind’s feet, much to the shock of the party leaders.
Sources say it was the first time that Jagan had touched the feet of any leader, that too, a person whom he had not met earlier.
“We don’t remember Jagan touching the feet of even his father Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, leave alone spiritual leaders and other elders.
Even when he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he just greeted him with folded hands and did not touch the feet. Naturally, this sudden gesture surprised everybody,” a party leader said.
What is more interesting is that when Jagan started introducing his party leaders to Kovind on the dais inside the hotel, Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy also suddenly prostrated before Ramnath Kovind.
It then struck to the people that touching the feet of Kovind could be Vijay Sai Reddy’s idea.
May be, the YSRC leaders thought Kovind would come to their rescue if the CBI tightens the noose around them in the pending cases before elections!
