Sonia applies mind on Seemandhra stir

If reports from New Delhi are to be believed, Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has, for the first time, taken the ongoing agitation in the Seemandhra region a little seriously.

She called AICC in-charge of Andhra affairs Digvijay Singh to her residence on Wednesday and discussed with him in detail the agitation in Seemandhra against bifurcation of the state.

Digvijay is learnt to have explained her how serious the 60-day agitation in the region is and how the the entire administration had come to a standstill besides the normal life going hay wire.

Both Sonia and Digvijay are understood to have discussed the ways and means to prevail upon the striking employees to call off their agitation and avoid further trouble to the common people.

The cabinet note on Telangana and the present stage where it got stuck seems to have also been discussed.

Sonia reportedly told Digvijay that it would not be possible to go back on the Telangana statehood issue, as it was a matter of prestige for her.

However, she has applied their mind over the status of Hyderabad which has now become a contentious issue, sources said.
