Sadavarthi Lands: RK Pays Full Amount

Sadavarthi Lands: RK Pays Full Amount

As directed by the Hyderabad high court, YSR Congress party MLA from Mangalagiri Alla Ramakrishna Reddy on Friday paid the second instalment of of Rs 17.44 crore to the Endowments Department of Andhra Pradesh to take possession of the controversial Sadavarthi lands in Chennai.

He had already paid Rs 10 crore to the department on July 14 as part of the first instalment. So, in all, the MLA had paid the entire amount of Rs 27.44 crore to the government for possessing the lands, as directed by the high court.

With that, the lands admeasuring 84 acres would come in possession of the MLA from the TDP leader and AP Kapu Corporation chairman Ch Ramanjaneyulu, who knocked away the lands worth over Rs 1200 crore at a cheap rate of Rs 22 crore in an auction allegedly stage-managed by the Chandrababu Naidu government.

The YSRC MLA challenged the government’s decision in the high court, stating that the chief minister had handed the lands to his benamis for a pittance.

The lands were donated to the government by Sadavarthi Raja Vasi Reddy to provide financial assistant to poor Brahmins.

“However, Naidu taking advantage of the land dispute, hurriedly auctioned them and allotted them to his own people at Rs 22 crore,” he said.

The high court had then asked whether Ramakrishna Reddy would be able to buy the lands by offering Rs 5 crore more, if he did not agree with the price at which they were auctioned. Reddy agreed for the same.

Now that the MLA has paid the entire amount as per the court orders, it remains to be seen whether the Naidu government will hand over the precious lands to him.

It is an embarrassing situation for the chief minister, as he cannot resort to contempt of the high court. At the same time, he cannot forego such a precious piece of land!
