Sadavarthi lands: Not easy for Alla to acquire!

YSR Congress party MLA from Mangalagiri Alla Ramakrishna Reddy might have staked claim on the 83 acres of controversial Sadavarthi lands in Chennai by paying Rs 27.44 crore as per the directions of the Hyderabad high court, but it appears it is not so easy for him to take possession of the lands.

According to sources, the highest bidder in the auction held earlier who bought the lands for just Rs 22 crore as against the original market value of over Rs 1200 crore, sought one week’s time from the high court for filing a counter affidavit in the case.

Following the plea, the bench of acting chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice J Uma Devi adjourned the case to next week to enable the bidder to file counter to the PIL filed by Ramakrishna Reddy.

If the high court judgement does not come in his favour, the higher bidder is likely to move the Supreme Court challenging the high court order.

His argument is that it was against the norms to stake claim for an auctioned property by offering to pay more than the bid amount proposed by the highest bidder.

“There is no meaning in conducting the auction at all. Once the property is given to the highest bidder, it has to be final. If a company bags an irrigation contract in a proper bidding, can somebody else come later and claim the contract by offering some more amount extra?

If the MLA was interested in the property, he should have participated in the bidding and quoted higher amount. But he has no right over the property which was already auctioned,” sources said.
