No politics for my children, says Venkaiah

No politics for my children, says Venkaiah

Veteran parliamentarian and newly elected Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday claimed that none of his family members would come into politics as long as he was alive.

Speaking at the book releasing function, Venkaiah declared that neither his wife nor his children were ever seen in public, leave alone seen in the corridors of power, unlike family members of other politicians.

“Not many people know my wife Usha, as she doesn’t come into people, but maintains a very low profile. My son is into automobile dealership and he minds his own business. So is my daughter who is actively involved in social work through Swarna Bharati Trust and occasionally, she is seen in public. None of them do not enter into my domain nor do I bother about their work,” he said.

He pointed out that his children never do any sort of lobbying in politics or power, though he had held several high positions in politics and government.

“Unlike many other politicians, I don’t encourage dynasty politics,” he said.

Venkaiah also revealed that had he not been offered the post of Vice President, he would have retired from politics by 2019.

“I told my wife the same. After seeing Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister for the second term, I thought I would retire from active politics since I would cross 70 by then. But, now, I am forced to retire from politics two years in advance,” he said.
