Naidu-KCR Doing Joint Lobbying!

Naidu-KCR Doing Joint Lobbying!

With Union home minister Rajnath Singh throwing up his hands on increasing the number of assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states and throwing the ball into the court of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is a tricky situation for both Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

All these days, both the chief ministers were given the impression that the delimitation of assembly constituencies in their states was only a technical issue and that the law ministry has given clearance to the home ministry to prepare the draft bill. They were told it was only a matter of time to introduce the bill in Parliament.

However, when the bill was not in the agenda of the winter session of Parliament, both Naidu and KCR thought they would discuss it with the home ministry and settle it.

But when they met Rajnath Singh separately on Tuesday, he gave them a piece of mind stating that it was a political decision which has to be taken by the Prime Minister and also BJP national president Amit Shah and unless they give the clearance, the bill cannot be passed.

Now the only option left for Naidu and KCR is to make joint lobbying with Modi and Shah to get the number of assembly seats increased.

Naturally, the question comes why the Centre should give clearance for the bill. Apparently, the bill is put on hold under pressure from RSS, which is arguing that an increase in number of seats in Telangana would only help the TRS which would attract many leaders from the opposition parties, including the BJP promising more assembly seats.

Why the TRS should be allowed to grow at the cost of the BJP which is aiming for power in Telangana, the RSS argued.

In AP, too, it might benefit the BJP to some extent by asking for more number of seats from the TDP. But when the party itself is trying to cut off its ties with the TDP, there is no point in giving political advantage to the TDP!
