KCR To Scrap Rs 1 A Kg Rice Scheme

If Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has his way, the price of subsidy rice being provided to white card holders at a rate of Re 1 a kg will go up by 200 per cent.

Acccording to Minister for Civil Supplies and Finance Etela Rajender, the cabinet sub-committee on the Public Distribution System has decided that the price of subsidy rice be increased from Re 1 a kg to Re 3 or 4 a kg.

The sub-committee would make a recommendation to this effect to the Chief Minister after Dasara. In all probability, it would come into effect from the last week of October.

However, Rajendar said the present quantity of rice might be increased from 4 kg per each member per month to 5 kg per each person or 30 kgs per each family per month. The new ration cards would be issued in the last week of October.
