KCR Calls AP Residuary State!

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao always makes sweet talk about Andhra Pradesh stating that he would respect the Telugu people of the neighbouring state. But whenever he gets a chance, he does not lose it to humiliate it.

In his letter to Union home minister Rajnath Singh staking claim on Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi, KCR made repeated reference to the neighbouring state as residuary Andhra Pradesh.

He claimed that Telangana cannot be called a new state as it was only separated from erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.

“It was only a demerger and not the formation of separate Telangana state. The remaining part is residuary Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

Technically it might be correct, but calling the neighbour as residuary state amounts to humiliating the people of AP. It is like saying: “we have got our share; and what is left is yours.”

In fact, the term residuary state was deliberately used for AP by the then Congress-led UPA government at the centre at the time of bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. This was to differentiate between combined AP and the divided portion of the state which remained after separation of Telangana.

At that time, there was a strong protest from Seemandhra people against using the term residuary AP. After June 2, 2014, the term was not used and it was called Andhra Pradesh only. Now, by recalling the word residuary state, KCR raked up old wounds!
