Is Everything Ok Between India And China?

Chinese president Xi Jinping is on a three-day visit to India and during his visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that for friendly relations to continue between India and China, border issues must be dealt with head on.

He opined that both the countries wanted peace and that India never tried to encroach upon any country’s sovereignty or entered into neighbouring territories.

Narendra Modi said India also expected the same behavior from all its neighbours.

Disclosing the same after his meeting with the Chinese president, Narendra Modi said that the Chinese president also felt that an amicable solution to the border issues was necessary for both countries to trust and work with each other.

Modi added that China promised not to indulge in any provocative acts in future. The Chinese president also opined that both India and China followed free market economy which provided a conducive environment for international investors.

Though the high-level meeting concluded on a positive note, many wonder if China will be able to shrug its image of the belligerent dragon and turn a friendly neighbor. However, after the president’s visit, it was quite obvious that the country’s stand on various issues has changed drastically when compared to the past.

One reason could be China realizing that there must be better relations between Asian countries to take on mighty America. Given this scenario, it won’t be surprising if China announces India as its ally in future.

While friendly neighbourhood is good for growth and prosperity, tremendous growth prospects of India’s free market economy in the coming years are undeniable.
