A few months back, the journalists had everything going for them. Elections were around the corner and the BJP which was eyeing 7, Race Course Road, pampered them big time.
Every need of their’s was taken care of and they got to take tours with various contestants as the Saffron party wanted to grab eyeballs with positive stories.
Though there were sure of Saffron resurgence, they did not want to leave any stone unturned and made sure that media people, big and small, were kept happy to spin positive stories about them.
Most importantly, they wanted them to create the buzz and reiterate the fact that India was ready for BJP coming to power not only in New Delhi but in almost all the states.
So, there were trips on chartered crafts, wining and dining all done as part of poll trails and the media never had it so good.
But now, the people have given their verdict. The media has done its job by projecting BJP as the one party that could salvage Indians and put them on the path of growth and prosperity.
So, it’s back to work now. With some states going to polls soon, it is being said that the Prime Minister has passed strict instructions that BJP members must not take media people with them as they begin campaigning in poll-bound states.
Also, the entire BJP coterie is expected to follow Modi who is totally averse to the idea of media tagging along on official trips.
Well, whoever wondered about ‘use and throw’?
