Date Finalised For Capital Ground-Breaking Ceremony?

After deputy chief minister KE Krishnamurthy made a statement saying that it will take another year and half for work to begin on new capital city, the Andhra Pradesh government seems to have responded to it indirectly.

The government sources say that the ground-breaking ceremony will be held on June 2 or Ugadi or on May 28 which marks the birthday of late NT Rama Rao, in all probability.

It is being said that all important government buildings will be located towards Guntur.

However, CM’s official residence and camp office will be in Vijayawada. Another report says that landscaped gardens will be developed on a 20-km stretch along the Krishna river and that the state Secretariat would be 44 storeys high.

Plans are also on to build state Assembly which will be on par with Taj Mahal. Once developed, the building will be a major tourist destination, say inside officials.

The government intends to complete the process of land pooling by March and take another year to develop the capital city. They hope to complete the ground-breaking ceremony so that the process can be initiated.
