When it was in power, the Congress party had ruthlessly crushed the Maoist party and imposed severe curbs on its sympathisers and front organisations.
During the Congress regime, the Maoist party was more less wiped out from the State and its sympathisers could not even come in open in support of its ideology.
But now that the Congress is in opposition, it has started singing Maoist party tune and arguing in support of Maoist sympathisers and front organisations.
The arrest of Maoist emissary P Varavara Rao by the police and the denial of permission to hold a meeting of “Pratyamnaya Rajakeeya Vedika,” an obvious front organization of Maoist party has given a weapon to the Congress party to attack the ruling TRS.
Telangana Congress leaders on Monday strongly condemned the arrest of Varavara Rao and others in a highly objectionable manner.
Deputy leader in legislative council Shabbir Ali said, in a democracy, everyone has a right to hold protest and express his opinion. By denying them permission to conduct the meeting, the Telangana Government violated their fundamental right to freedom of speech. Further, senior leaders were manhandled by the police without even considering their age.
He said that the Congress Government never imposed ban on meetings although it granted conditional permission in some cases, he said.
