Back To Telangana Of 10 Districts?

Like Alfred Hitchcock's suspense thrillers, the Telangana drama is taking new twists and turns every hour.

Just when every newspaper and television channel reported that the seven-member Group of Ministers (GoM) has recommended Rayala Telangana State, there comes another twist.

According to latest indications, the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is a member of the GoM, is said to have advised his colleagues against recommending Rayala Telangana in view of the widespread opposition and resistance to the idea.

Ironically, it was Azad who had first mooted the idea of Rayala Telangana at a time when there was a broad consensus over Telangana state with ten districts and Hyderabad as the common capital, as per the Congress Working Committee's unanimous resolution on July 30.

However, it was Azad, the former AICC General Secretary, who introduced the proposal of Rayala Telangana to maximize political gains.

However, he seems to have developed cold feet now, going by the violent reaction from the Telangana region.

Azad was not present at the final round of the GoM meeting on Wednesday as he was in Kolkata as part of an official programme. And on his return, Azad was believed to have told his colleagues and members in the GoM to recommend the Telangana of ten districts in the GoM report.

Azad has sent his opinion to the GoM on Wednesday evening. In his note, he advised the GoM to stick to the CWC resolution that called for Telangana with Hyderabad as joint capital. He wanted the GoM members to consider ‘Rayala Telangana’ proposal, only if it is okayed by the Andhra Pradesh state Assembly.
