But the mother (Chandana) of the boy asks Roopa to change her sari at the betrothal and wear another she gives. Roopa excuses out saying that the sari she wore belongs to her mother who is no more. Roopa’s parents died in an accident and Roopa is quite sentimental about it. This refusal makes the boy’s mother think that Roopa is adamant and might cause trouble after marriage. Hence she cancels the match. Anand (Raja), a well wisher of Roopa’s family, happens to listen to that discussion and decides to marry her. He too is rich and feels guilty that Roopa’s parents died in a road accident caused by his father. Therefore he becomes quite sympathetic and wishes that she becomes his wife so that he can look after them well. He becomes a care taker without her knowledge. She is working in a firm but resigns the job as the other man Anooj wanted to marry her. She is welcome there to rejoin it. Melkote plays her boss. Though the matrimonial is cancelled, Anooj continues his chase. His mother dies of sudden heart attack. Even then Roopa hesitates to go with him. One night, he forces her into his car in a drunken mood. But she gets out of his clutches. She then gets close to Anand.
Analysis:
It is a simple story but the treatment given to the theme and is artistic. Director Sekhar handles it so well that we feel as if the story is happening in the neighborhood. It never gets the color of a commercial movie. The director revels in small details and makes them very interesting. Music part makes it more interesting, well picturised. Radhakrishnan’s music score is refreshing and is an asset to the film. Photographer Vijaykumar gives us excellent visuals. ‘Vache Vache Nalla Mabbullaara ‘ song caught the imagination of every one. “Nuvvena’, ‘Yamuna Teeram’ are other good songs, well scored. Anand like his name is cool guy taking everything in stride. He is expected to be happy throughout the movie.
Performances:
Raja, who is having a lean period looks well settled in this film. Kamalini is quite cute and lives her role caught up between two men. Anooj too leaves his mark as a disappointed lover. Roopa character was very special contrasting with Anand and were developed by both the artistes. Chandana, Anish as Anand’s friend and Bakhita as a friend of the heroine also leave their mark on the film.
